Coaching You to Achieve Your Endurance Goals
Are you serious about your training? Are you looking for a training program that fits in your schedule that provides you the needed preparation for your upcoming adventures? I was in the same place for many years and worked out a way to stay healthy and meet my goals in endurance sports like running, mountaineering and cycling. I have worked with friends over the past 10 years tuning my body to take on a variety of endurance challenges. I have been on the “Sharp End” of endurance training for years and I can share these techniques with you so you too can complete your dream events and self-made adventures.
The programs I customize for you take into consideration your fitness goals, life and family commitments by maximizing your time in training for your specific sport. I am also a firm believer in cross training to help
balance the physical training and also as a way to add some variety in your training regimen to keep your interest and motivation at a higher level. My techniques come from my personal experiences running ultra marathons, competing in stage races in the desert, completing long distance cycling, events, rock climbing and many less structured adventures in the outdoors.
I am not much of a fan of the indoor gym training since the outdoors provides so much more in the way of motivation and a committing training environment.
If getting serious and establishing structure with your training is of interest to you, please contact me and share with me your passion for your chosen sport. your goals and life’s demands. We can work together in customizing your training plan.
The plan includes a week by week set of activities, rest and cross-training to realistically challenge you and meet your endurance sport goals. Weekly plans also include nutritional and mental training tips that are so important to be successful in endurance sports. We plan a training strategy using a structure of build-up and recovery weeks to meet your longer term goals. Feedback from you is a key element of success as we work together to perform tests to measure your current fitness and set plans to improve your performance.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Howard
SharpEnd LLCWhy Howard?
I have been involved in some sort or endurance sport since my late teens. Over these last 30 years I have covered a myriad of terrain: horizontal, vertical, up and down across some of the most forbidding terrain on the planet. Whether it was on foot running some of the toughest ultras in the USA or competing in running back to back days during a stage race in the deserts of some far and obscure corner of the world.
My knowledge comes from experience and the voracious reading I do on the subject of endurance. I find applying techniques from one sport to another has been a good way to keep fit and also providing the variety we all need to keep motivated.
To date I have completed over 55 ultramarathons, 2 stage races (Gobi and Atacama Deserts), The Libyan Challenge 125 mile nonstop race in the Sahara Desert
and numerous ultra adventure runs with like minded runners in the local mountains and in the High Sierras. I’ve climbed hundreds of technical rock climbing routes in the west including many in backcountry alpine style. Recently I have been energized by endurance cycling and have explored this realm by completing a number of double centuries and will soon attempt my first really long solo ride, the Furnace Creek 508. I enjoy sharing my adventures with friends through pictures, maps, and the never ending stories that seen to come from being humbled by what nature can dish out and the internal battles that we all experience some time in our endurance careers.
I like to enable others to achieve their goals as I did professionally as an IT manager for the last 30 years or whether it is helping someone overcome some physical limitations to run their first or next ultra.I look forward to helping you meet and exceed your goals. Contact me and let’s see what the future can hold for you.
Happy trails,
Howard
